The cloud was unnatural. It looked innocent enough, all white and fluffy, until you noticed that it was hundreds of feet above the actual cloud layer, and still climbing. It defied wind, and gravity, and all common sense, and it was heading right for Skyloft. Just looking at the thing made Keeya uneasy, and she'd been circling the thing at a distance for almost an hour, waiting for her fellow squires to arrive.
Keeya didn't show it, but she was nervous. There was something in that cloud. She could feel it. It was big, and it was strong, and it was mean. They would probably have to fight it. Sure, they'd been trained for battle, but this would be Keeya's first real fight. She was sworn to protect the world from devastation. Now she was staring a small piece of devastation right in the face. After this, she would be one step closer to knighthood. Keeya gripped her lance tighter.
Trepidation became anticipation.

broken dreams and hardened hearts The cloud was pretty fricking huge, she had to admit. She rarely got curious about this sort of thing, but Aspen had to admit: that was a big ass cloud. Big, and fast. She ran her fingers through the silky feathers of Lucifer and leaned her head to the right, guiding him down to where Keeya Satori was waiting with her loftwing. She too had been sizing up the cloud. There would undoubtedly be some nasty thing that they’d have to fight off inside, duty and honor were so troublesome sometimes. But, the Academy was going to reward them for this, and it was going to be good. Aspen hadn’t talked to Keeya much before, but the girl looked positively ripped. A quick flash of sun hit the two, and Aspen caught a glimpse of golden eyes. Gerudo, she’ll be alright. The real question was the third member of their party, Levi, who didn’t look all that extraordinary in terms of fighting ability. Aspen hoped she was wrong, because it was going to be a long day if he wasn’t up to par. Well, as long as she was kept here waiting, she hovered her loftwing a little closer to the gerudo’s and said, “So Keeya, do you have a plan, or is it the usual hack and slash our way through sort of event?” She really hoped it was hack and slash. Please let it be hack and slash. Complicated plans take too long to remember and nothing ever goes right. I’m ready to fight! Tagged: Keeya Satori Levi StoneNotes: Here goes nothing~ Word Count: 256

Below the floating land-mass that was Skyloft, Levi flew Cyrial towards the menacing cloud. He saw the two girls sitting on their own Loftwings. Aspen Lucard. Owner of the Lumpy Pumpkin since her father's untimely death, poor man. Next to her was Keeya Satori, a year beneath Aspen and himself, the Gerudo girl had been the first name signed. "Aspen. Keeya." The elder squire greeted the women. He had arrived just in time to hear the ginger ask about fighting the cloud. The look on her face said it all. She wanted to bloody murder whatever was driving the cumulus towards their homeland in the sky. "Aspen, we don't even know what is in there. Blindly forcing our way through it will end up more detrimental than not most likely." He almost mentioned that Keeya didn't have an actual weapon like the older two but didn't want to potentially harm the Gerudo's feelings. Levi was trying to come up with some sort of plan but it was proving difficult. How do we fight off a cloud? He kept thinking. He did have too admit, he wanted to know what was in there as much as the other two. LAIKA OF GS!

Keeya greeted her fellow squires with a quiet nod, momentarily tongue-tied as Aspen asked her opinion on how they should proceed. Aspen was older, and more ferocious, and also really cute. Levi was also older, and more experienced, but seemed uninterested in taking charge. Apparently, the initiative was hers.
Hefting her wooden training lance, Keeya banked closer to the cloud. No longer circling, she was now spiraling inwards towards the grey-white mass. "I'm going to go poke it with a stick."
It took her a few minutes to approach the cloud, moving closer with every pass, straining her senses to see if it would react to her presence. She was close enough to touch the wall of white when she heard the trumpeting cries, and Amtal - her loftwing - banked hard away from the cloud as black things descended upon her, passing close enough to bump Amtal into a brief, panicked fall before she could recover. Pain radiated through their bond.
These were not birds. Not anymore, at least. They were twisted things, with concave heads crackling with red, alien patterns, and wicked spines and long, slashing tails. There were two of them, and they both turned their red, eyeless gazes towards Keeya. They had raptor feet, but not the talons to match. Their toes were blunt, and bulbous. Somehow, Keeya was certain that they had meant to simply snatch her out of the air and break her in half. Instead, they had given her the height advantage, and she knew from her training that it was vital that she keep it.
The things were climbing fast.
Keeya urged Amtal on, shoving the pain in her wing aside for the both of them, and they wheeled around for the counterattack. One was closer, and they pulled into a shallow dive, until the combined weight and momentum of bird and squire both slammed Keeya's lance into the humerus of the beast's right wing. Its hide was like stone, and under that was thick muscle, but the force of the impact numbed Keeya's arm up to the shoulder, and the twisted thing faltered, knocked off-balance by her strike. Amtal climbed madly out of the dive, keeping just ahead of the other beast as it climbed past its twin, and struggled to reach her teammates.Shadow Kargorok A - A Kargorok corrupted by darkness. broken dreams and hardened hearts She was going to poke it with a stick. Great Hylia, Aspen was regretting coming along on this quest. All of her preconceived notions about the Gerudo being able to handle herself were thrown out the window with that ridiculous line. As she watched the girl race toward the cloud she fought the urge to turn back and resign Keeya to her sure failure. She probably would have turned back too, had it not been for the sudden emergence of a wicked looking black beast. Aspen jumped in surprise, and Lucifer reared up in response to this. She took a deep breath and put a firm pressure on the loftwing’s head with her hand. She had to keep a better hold on her emotions in the fight, or she’d end up like Keeya, who’d just smacked her bird into one of the beasts. It was probably time to intervene. She leaned forward and urged Lucifer to fly up at an increasingly rapid speed. The beasts were far above them, but she guided herself to be positioned underneath the one that Keeya had just lanced. It looked like it’d recovered, but she figured that it would be the weaker of the two now. Aspen had her sword in hand, held firmly but not in a death grip, ready to attack as soon as she was close enough… there! She flew underneath the creature and stuck the sword straight up into its horrid looking underbelly. Her sword was almost immediately wrenched from her hand, the skin of the creature was far stronger than she’d ever imagined. Still in pain from the hit, she assumed, the creature didn’t kick her with its massive feet, so she took the opportunity to turn back and wrench her sword out of the creature. It came out with a revolting squoosh noise, and covered in sticky, most certainly evil looking blood. A second attack was impossible due to her momentary disarming, so Aspen immediately dived down away from the beasts and accelerated towards the other squires. Levi literally facepalmed when he heard Keeya reveal her master plan. "You're going to poke a cloud with a stick?" He asked the Gerudo. She was too far away to hear him however. The Beorc squire was in the process of turning away from Keeya, his face still sitting in his hand when he heard the noise. Some distorted trumpet call from the depths of Subrosia itself. Two dark beasts rose from the cloud and headed straight for Keeya. The shadow things resembled kargoroks but with a head like that it was near impossible to call them the same name. Levi saw one scratch at Keeya's Loftwing and dove after it. "Faster Cyrial!" He urged his own bird.towards the air battle. Levi's lance was already out in jabbing position by the time he reached the skirmish. "Hyaa!" He yelled as he stabbed the same beast that attacked Keeya. Or rather, tried to stab the carrion bird, he more succeeded in leaving a small wound before being repelled. The other shadow bird took notice and swooped down again Levi directly. The squire was able to duck down but not before being grazed by the weird talon not-talons LAIKA OF GS! Cyrial Hearts: Shadow Kargarok A: Shadow Kargarok B:

Keeya's fellow squires immediately came to her aid, capitalizing on the opening she'd made with her first charge. Though its counterpart was held up between Aspen and Levi's assault, the second bird kept up its chase, tirelessly ascending after Keeya as Amtal desperately beat her wings to stay above and ahead of it. Below, she watched Aspen and Levi battle the other creature. "Take the high ground!" She had to shout to try and be heard above the wind and the basso calls of the twisted kargoroks. "Harry and strike from above! Don't let them snatch you!"
Keeya pressed herself as close to her loftwing as possible, and they threw themselves into a full, hard turn. The black bird was monstrously strong, but Keeya crossed over its back and out of its view.
The kargorok's neck twisted, then folded as it turned its head to track them. Its long tail lashed upwards, and Keeya froze as the point shot up to pierce them both. Amtal kept her calm, and banked to evade the strike. They wound up gaining some distance on the thing as it reoriented itself. Pride and relief flooded their bond, so intense that neither of them could tell who felt what.
Energy collected on the tip of Keeya's lance as she pointed it down at the bird Aspen and Levi were engaging. With one hot on her heels, hopefully Keeya would be able to stun the other long enough for the other squires to find a better position. She released the bolt of aetheric energy, and cheered when it hit the bird square between the shoulders a moment later. They could win this.Shadow Kargorok A - A Kargorok corrupted by darkness. broken dreams and hardened hearts Aspen vaguely heard Keeya’s shouts above the beating sounds of wings everywhere. These creatures were really something, what were they doing in Skyloft of all places? Aspen shook her head as she circled around once more, regrouping after having been shaken up by her almost failure in the last attack, and shot up as the Gerudo had instructed. The three squires, they were all fighting well individually, but what they needed was a group plan. Aspen wasn’t usually a huge fan of teamwork, but neither was she a fan of getting knocked out and possibly killed in a fight. This would have to be the exception. She yelled, as loud as she could, “I’m going to distract it, you two take the opportunity while it’s after me and hit it!” She wasn’t going to get close enough to hit it with her sword, that would mean certain death for her plan, but instead continued to fly up and above the creatures. She was going to use magic on it, partially inspired by Keeya’s last strategy. She couldn’t use tomes for shit, but she was able to at least do some fire damage. She thrust a hand forward and forced flames to hit the creature that they were all targeting, hoping to momentarily blind it, but in return garnered the attention of its companion. The tail of the shadow beat whipped around to strike Aspen in the ribs, hard. She was knocked sideways on Lucifer, and had to dig her knees in hard to avoid being flung to her death. The poor loftwing squawked at this, but Aspen knew that he’d rather take that pain than lose his rider. She groaned, and touched her side. Her dress had been completely ripped open on the left side, and it was already bruised and bleeding. It wasn’t life threatening though, nothing had impaled her organs, and her stunt had surely distracted the beasts long enough to let the other two attack. It hurt, but it was worth it. Aspen followed Keeya's example and blasted the bird with magic, and Levi used the opening to strike at it and get away safely. The thing was beginning to falter, and its pained cries caught the attention of its counterpart which broke off chasing Keeya and went after Aspen. She'd left herself open, and bought them all time with her blood. It was up to Keeya and Levi to make sure Aspen hadn't just committed suicide. At least they were fighting with something resembling coordination. United, they had the numbers advantage. As long as they covered each other, none of them would be snatched off their loftwings and have their arms pulled off. Hopefully.
One of the beasts was still fresh, but the other was wounded and weakened. Where one beat the air into submission with monstrous strength, whipping and contorting its body into impossible shapes to maneuver in the air, the other was becoming wary, staying out of melee until it could find an opening. Keeya ripped more energy out of the air. Flung another burning piece of her soul at it. She was the predator now.Shadow Kargorok A - A Kargorok corrupted by darkness. broken dreams and hardened hearts Her taking a hit had been worth it, the other two squires had both been successful. She noticed that Keeya had used magic again on the beast. It had to be getting even weaker now, even closer to death. Levi had complained about her tactic, but Keeya was really taking advantage of the situation. Aspen called out to Levi, “If you’re admitting that you’re too weak to handle these, maybe you should have stayed home. Keeya’s got the idea!” She stayed back this time, not wanting to take another hit so soon after the first, but didn’t let up on her offensive. She flung her hand out again and threw even more flames at the shadow beast, trying to blind it even more with the fire. Hopefully it was weak enough now that they could finish it off soon. It would be easier to take down the other one then, after it was alone. “Keep hitting it everyone, it’s almost down!” she shouted. She winced, throwing the flames had thrown pain through her side wound. She had to keep repeating to herself, it’s going to be worth it, it’s going to be worth it, it’s going to be worth it. Keeya watched Levi and Aspen juggle the birds' aggro with approval, each exploiting the openings the other created. They had all been caught flat-footed, but they'd had the wits and the training to regroup. Keeya couldn't help but feel a little bit proud of herself and her fellow squires. They were accomplishing something. They were a unit.
Her next - and final - bolt of energy ripped through the beast's wing, and it shrieked and trumpeted as it started to fall, flapping madly to keep from falling into a spiral. It turned away from the battle, and started to slowly make its way back towards the ominous cloud. "Finish it! Don't let it recover!"
Trusting her team to execute the straggler, Keeya turned her attention to the other shadowy bird. She pressed her knees tight against Amtal's sides and dove, pulling up just as she came between Levi and the beast. It was her turn to be the bait. broken dreams and hardened hearts Keeya’s energy bolt smashed into the beast, Aspen was surprised that she had enough in her to do it three times. She was very glad she did though, because the thing looked like it was ready to fall at any moment. It was battered, bleeding, and badly burned. All it needed was a little push. Aspen knew that she could provide that push.
She sped up next to the grotesque creature that was attempting escape back into the cloud. Its spiraling body was held up by desperate wing flaps, but it wasn’t able to fly very far because of that. The buffeting winds spattered some of the black blood in her face, it burned a bit, and felt far more thick than normal blood. She lifted her sword and struck the beast in the middle of what looked to be its eye, bright and pulsating. Another spray of the black blood hit her, and she screamed as the blow aggravated her injury, but as she ripped the blade out, she knew it was finished. All that was left now was to take down the second of the pair. She had faith in their training, they could do it.
“One down!” she yelled, announcing the first of the enemies killed.

SHAKE ME TO THE CORE MAKE ME STRONGER THAN BEFORE
Keeya cheered when Aspen finished the beast, and focused in on the last one. She had placed herself between it and her team, and her attention had been split between Aspen's assault and keeping the kargarok busy. She'd lost track of Levi for just a moment, and was taken by surprise when he very literally threw himself at the enemy. She tried to help him, but could find no room to strike with their struggle. It wasn't until Levi disengaged that Keeya could contribute, slamming her lance into the thing's underbelly with all the force she could muster. The kargarok's bulbous fingers clasped around her arm. She'd been so focused on finding an angle that she'd dipped downwards and lost the height advantage. The beast trumpeted its victory as it twisted Keeya's arm into a right angle. SNAP!Screaming, Keeya slammed her lance upwards into the bird's black neck. It flinched, its grip loosened, and Amtal got them away while Keeya stared at her arm in disbelief. Blood was seeping out from around the inch of bone sticking out of her arm. The pain hit like a hammer, and Keeya's vision blurred and darkened as the shock threatened to overtake her completely. She clung to her loftwing hard enough to make her squawk. Sobbing, Keeya retreated into her training with tears in her eyes. Breathe. Have to breathe. It's not squirting. I'll be fine. Have to breathe. She dissociated from the pain. Tucked her arm close to her body and ignored it. Pushed it down to be dealt with by her future self. She'll thank me later, when she's alive to deal with this.Shadow Kargorok B- A Kargorok corrupted by darkness. They are much, much stronger than their normal counterparts. broken dreams and hardened hearts Still on a high after her defeat of the first monster, Aspen was willing to be a little more forward with her next attack. She grinned as the other two squires started to jab at the remaining beast, an air of confidence around her. The girl circled about on her loftwing, waiting out her turn to contribute again, but jumped in alarm as she heard a terrible screeching. It was Keeya, whose arm had been completely snapped. She closed her eyes and mentally saluted the other girl – that had to be painful. She knew that Keeya would need to be covered now, with a broken arm. Aspen urged Lucifer to fly back into the heat of the battle, and she wildly swung her sword at the beast’s softer flesh, slashing it open into a long wound. She hoped it hurt like hell.
She took the moment to grab Keeya’s non-injured arm and look into her eyes. “Don’t think about it until after this fight, we’ll do something about it then. If you take a hit to your other arm and become useless,” Her words were interrupted by a roar from the beast, and Aspen ducked to avoid an incoming clawed foot. Her heart was racing, it was only a matter of time before she too was hit again. The beasts were strong. She said, finishing, “If you become useless, I’ll personally push you off of your loftwing, got it?”
