Hylian 30 male fire November 27 | heterosexual regna ferox west khan/armorer west khan chaotic good |
details
- Personality: Rant has been known to be incredibly two-faced. While he runs his little weapons shop well enough, showing himself to be kind, helpful, caring, and generally charismatic to new people he meets and those that look to do business with him in some way, shape, or form, he has a habit of being aggressive, rude, and stern to most of the people he does know or who are his subordinates, prompting various mixed reviews to those in the realm. Still, no one can disagree that despite all that he is a kind man who is fair.
However, Rant is really a man whose heart had been torn by his once very close friend going so far as to betray him for power, and the blood of that very man's blood on his hands--his blade--haunts him to this very day. Many say that in reality he could pick up a blade again and becoming the swordsman he once was if only he would try to overcome his injury, and it's often hard to know if such a thing is true, even to him, and he deeply believes he gave up swordsmanship only because he doesn't want to relive that day. He is bitter, and doesn't trust easily, questioning even simple things people do and sometimes even taking them as their way of trying to take advantage of something. Still, he is thankful for his position as khan, and even the soldiers that would throw down their lives in battle if need be, and as such treats them so harshly--and those he cares about--so that they would be able to truly have what they need to survive drilled into them. - Appearance: Rant is actually fairly short, being around 5'7. Despite that, he has a very slim yet muscular build, seeming to pack a lot of power into a compact frame for efficiency. His hair is a light blonde, reaching his shoulders when not bound and silky smooth, strands typically obscuring either one side of his face and eye seemingly completely.. His eyes are a deep green, though he normally keeps them squinted. He normally wears a dark green shirt with a brown collar that connect to trim on the shoulders that goes down where the two halves of the front of his shirt connects. The sleeves of his shirt stop just under his elbows, and are decorated with parts that look like rolled-up sleeves made of the same brown leather that make up both his collar and the trim. His pants are a basic black and are tucked into long brown boots made of the same leather as listed, coming up to his mid thigh with metal decorating the soles of the feet, with a black coloration at the front of the boot's toe. When working the smithy, he keeps his hair tied up and restrained under a green bandanna, revealing more of his face with a white and green apron.
- Secrets
- His injury is really and truly just his mind hindering him, and he could actually use a sword still.
history
- Homeland: Regna Ferox
- History: Rant was born to his single mother, his father dying trying to make their way to Regna Ferox but succumbing to dangerous on the way. His father was a man of the military in Hyrule, but did not agree with the notions of Hylian superiority, and as such did not take kindly to some of the arrogance, and at times cruelty, his people showed to any race that wasn't sheikah. His wife shared his sentiments, and so stepping down from the military in his retirement, he opted to head towards the lands that he had visited once before and learned of those who valued strength as much as they, not caring of one's race or beliefs so long as they did their part. It was a fine place to raise a child, where only hard work and determination would show, rather than discrimination.
Unfortunately, Rant's father didn't make it as what was generally a relatively safe route to travel for both a mastery swordsman and a equally masterful spell weaver, they were taken in an ambush. The threat of bandits was reaching a increase, and it seemed they had gotten much smarter as well. His father, injured, still fought them off with the aid of his wife, but they were still days from their destination. He perished a few hours before they made it.
And so nearly nine months later, Rant was born, bearing a unique magical quality that his mother immediately honed in on. Still, as he grew, the sword and other forms of martial combat were what shaped him as a warrior, and once he hit puberty and was able to lift a proper blade, he seemed to be immensely gifted in that, too. He became a swordsman whose name traveled far, and there were already those that thought, once he peaked, he really could take the mantle of Khan. Despite already being a great swords, his mother in her infinite wisdom taught him night in and night out about magic, telling him that even if he wouldn't use it, it was always good to have a backup plan, as well as being more knowledgeable about something that would no doubt aid him in battle.
Though her magic had waned significantly over the years, she was still capable enough to fight. And she wasn't going to let her son squander his gifts.
In the war, Rant had his number called and excelled. His skill was great, and so he was offered to become the West Khan at the behest of the aged current khan of the time. No doubt having respect for the man, and even wanting to be recognized as the strongest, he accepted.
The injury happened a year later. During this time he had broadened his skills, feeling the need to forge his own weapons as he did not think having to rely on others for it would suit a warrior. However, in politics, there are always those that seek to overthrow, especially in the case of the khans. Some, however, have underhanded tactics to reach the goal. It was Rant's right hand man, who slipped a slow acting poison into his former ally's drink, asking to take a walk. The poison wasn't meant to kill him, however, as those of Regna Ferox believed in power, so he needed to beat him in battle. And so once the poison kicked in, it weakened the swordsman, nearly causing his death if not for his superior skill as a swordsman; he took his old friend's life at the cost of his sword arm being irreparably injured, ending his career with any sort of blade.
This didn't stop him, though. With the help of his mother, combined with his metal working skills, he was able to create a set of conduits for magical power in the shape of daggers to continue his connection with blades, bearing runes that allowed him to use them as weapons. His mother, who had vast knowledge, chose light magic, as it was the greatest weapon against evil, which had taken one of his gifts. Though the conduits weren't actually daggers, and so were completely blunt without even a sharp point and made of a material that could take the magical properties, making them very inefficient weapons for physical combat, they were easier to conceal and helped to not weigh him down quite as much; they were perfect to take advantage of the speed he still had as a swordsman.
While Regna Ferox was one that valued strength, it was no secret that they valued physical strength above that of magic, though no one spoke ill of the man who had time and time again shown that he could be valued for his physical capabilities, and to fight a former champion while weakened was more than enough to add support to him as a khan. And this continued for ages, though he was still in need of a champion. - Family/Relatives
